If you create your own Web pages (HTML and GIF
files), or if you have other files that you wish to transfer from your
computer to your web-site, you will need "FTP" software on your
computer.
To Download CUTE FTP for
free, click
here.
Using CUTE FTP:
Once you have downloaded this program and
installed it on your computer, upon opening Cute FTP you will immediately
see the following screen:

For best results, select
"other". Then click the "next" button. You will see a screen
that looks like this:

Give your connection a name, like "my site" or
your actual domain name. Then click the "next"
button. You will see a screen that looks like this:

Here, you must enter your HOSTNAME. Type in your domain name preceded by "ftp." Then click the "next"
button. You will see a screen that looks like this:

In this screen, type in your USERNAME and
PASSWORD we provided you when you setup your account. Make sure that
you enter your username and password CAPS sensitive, and that you do not
include any spaces or unnecessary punctuation (for example, if your
password is "bingo55", the server will not accept "bingo 55" or "bingo55
"). Do NOT check the box for "Anonymous logon".
If you have lost your password, send an email
to support@siteleader.com,
including your domain name and the last 4 digits of the credit card used
to pay for your domain (for security purposes).
Once you have entered your username and
password as instructed, click the "next" button. You will see a
screen that looks like this:

This screen is where you select the file or
directory ON YOUR COMPUTER where you have stored or saved your web
pages. If you do not remember where you saved your web page, or are
not sure of the exact name/path to the folder, click on the BROWSE button,
which will help you explore your files and find your web page
folder. Then click the "next" button. You will see a screen
that looks like this:

If you only have ONE domain that you connect to
via FTP, it is a good idea to select "Connect to this site
automatically". With this option, when you open CUTE FTP, the
program will immediately connect to your domain. If you have
multiple domains, we suggest that you do not use this option, and instead
use the SITE MANAGER. Your SITE MANAGER screen looks like
this:

To create new accounts in the SITE MANAGER,
just click on the "new" button, which will take you to the wizard
above. You can create hundreds of accounts here! Make sure
that your "login type" is set to NORMAL and that your "connection port" is
set to "21".
Transferring files:
- Change to another disk directory on the host
(server) computer where files will be transferred. (your root directory is "/www/htdocs/"- this is
where "index.html" (your homepage) should be
uploaded)

- Change to another disk directory on your
computer where files will be transferred.
- Upload a file from your computer's disk to the
host computer's disk, or download a file from the host computer to your
computer's disk by selecting the files you wish to transfer and then
dragging then into the server window.
If you have any difficulties, please send an
email to support@siteleader.com,
SPECIFICALLY stating your troubles with connecting, and if available, your
exact error message.
Have fun FTP'ing with Cute
FTP!
